saturday, 9.00hrs. location, temasek polytechnic. made arrangements with xx to catch her netball match. thot that its like us blokes, get together to play soccer on a saturday morning....how wrong i was!!

man its fierce. more than 10 teams at the courts next to the astro field. each team got name some more...wat maxx limit, abc123, synergy, sim blacks, etc. very serious these people. these netball organisers never play play one. they even got empires for both the courts. very serious! some teams even got jerseys as well. woooaahh...!!!

the games went fast, furious and bloody. people get cuts and bruises here and there. this dude on xx's team even dislocated his shoulder! these people are crazy. i thot netball is a non-contact sport?? hurry up, go get the rulebook here!

but seriously, the GS (goal shooter) were damm zun. shoot score, shoot score. take 3-point, okie miss but still super zhoon. make me like want to start playing basketball again. so what do i do? i borrowed a netball and head down to the nearby basketball court to shoot some baskets. end result, i shot some zun zun into the hoops, shoot some airballs and got a big fat blister on my left leg. xcellent, how to wakeboard on tuesday?

Crazy People

Date: 07 Oct 2005
Time: 1800 hrs
Location: Wala Wala (Holland V)
Event: Party for departing VP (& to welcome newbies)

people in my company are just plain crazy when coming to drinking and having fun. its really hard to imagine these are the same people whom you see in office everyday. take sastra. RMG manager. serious, soft-spoken during the day. Once the drinks started flowing, sastra the decent turned into
the mad. laughing, loud, kissing everone, sastra is everyone. on top of it, he still can wobble into Subway n ordered a footlong for his missus!

the boss, ono-san, serious and demanding in the office turns out to be a tankard at the bar. whiskey? no problem! tiger? bring it on! voldka? prepare the next one!! no wonder people say japanese can drink. for me, only 2 VBs and a whole lot of food..hahaha.

p.s. i did not even drink 1/2 of what the women in RMG drank. sigh

reply from UWS

I thought everyone should have a read of the response i got back from UWS (request for response). I need to digest this before i can comment on it...

Dear Mr. Sim,

We appreciate your concern about the welfare of our animals, and assure you that we try our best to ensure the health of all our animals. I apologize for the delayed response.

As for the Sea Turtles, yes, they can travel long distances, especially as juveniles, but once they reach adulthood they spend most of their time close to the shallow reef, as this is where their food is found.

Experience has shown that adult Sea Turtles do well in our turtle pond, as we have not lost a single adult turtle in the 14+ years that we have been open. We will look at the Turtle Pond and see if we need to move some turtles to a holding tank.

Our web page is currently being revised, so what you read may have been changed, but we have released Green, Hawksbill, and Loggerhead Turtles to the wild on multiple occasions, generally in conjunction with a University research project, such as satellite tagging to track their movements.

For the touch pool, we believe that this exhibit is very good for its educational value. We have a staff member assigned to watch touch pool for anyone mistreating the animals, but they occasionally get distracted - I will take steps to ensure that someone is always there, and watching closely. Our touch pool was created with an area in the middle that the guests cannot reach (a 'sanctuary') and we rotate the animals out periodically to give them a break. One correction to you statement - we do not have any juvenile fish in the touch pool, just adults and a few sub-adults.

The small sharks are not juvenile nurse sharks, but bamboo and blind sharks (Chiloscyllium sp. and Brachaelurus sp.) which are mature at 70 cm and generally eat crustaceans, not fish. The other fish are adult or near adult size, and are able to handle the touch pool environment better than juveniles.

We appreciate your feedback on our operation and encourage you to update us on your opinions. Thanks
